Located about 11 miles west of downtown Minneapolis, just west of the Interstate 494/394 corridor, it takes roughly 15 minutes to drive from Wayzata to downtown Minneapolis. It’s a quick commute to many workplaces and offices in the metro. Wayzata is located on the lower lake of Lake Minnetonka, basically the northeast part of the lake.

The name Wayzata is derived from a Lakota Sioux phrase meaning “North Shore.” The city is located on the north shore of Lake Minnetonka.
